Published: Grand Strand Magazine, Waccamaw Indian People

The South Carolina Lowcountry is full of culture and traditions. The Waccamaw Indian People have called coastal South Carolina home for centuries and their annual PauWau, located just outside Conway SC at the Waccamaw tribal grounds, is a celebration of their culture and keeping traditions alive. I recently was commissioned to photograph it for Grand Strand Magazine, A Myrtle Beach regional publication under Charleston Magazine. I was sent to cover the event as a whole but after seeing how ornate some of the outfits and headdresses were I decided to take a few portraits as well and I’m glad I did. Location-based portrait photography is something I love doing. Below is the spread that went to print then the full images below that.
